Rotary Walk With Us

Steps and sips to End Polio

It was another great afternoon walking around Lake Burley Griffin for the Walk With Us to End Polio challenge on Saturday, 25 October.

Our bright red End Polio Now shirts caught plenty of attention, especially following World Polio Day yesterday.

It was a perfect day to enjoy good company while supporting Rotary’s mission to end polio for good, before enjoying a refreshing drink at Margot Bar.

In this last week, we’re aiming to raise as much money and awareness as we can to help protect every child from this preventable disease.

Sunday stroll around the lake

Our Walk With Us to End Polio team was back out around Lake Burley Griffin on Sunday, 12 October, completing a 7km loop of the central basin before enjoying a well-earned lunch at The Dock. It was great weather to get out and spread awareness of End Polio Now.

Every kilometre we walk brings us one step closer to a world free from polio, but we still need your help to reach our fundraising goal of $2,000.

Thanks to the incredible support of the Gates Foundation, every dollar you donate will be tripled through their 2:1 match.

Labour Day walk around Lake Burley Griffin

On Monday, 6 October, some of our Walk With Us to End Polio Now participants took advantage of the public holiday to stretch their legs and add a few more kilometres to their tally with a walk around Lake Burley Griffin this afternoon.

Every step we take helps us get closer to a polio free world, but we need more help to reach our fundraising goal!

Our team is aiming to raise $2,000, and thanks to the Gates Foundation, every dollar donated will be matched 2:1.

We're challenging ourselves to walk, run or roll 10, 20, or 50km throughout the month and raise vital funds that will help eradicate and prepare us for a Polio free world.

Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal disease that still affects children in parts of the world. There’s no cure, but there is a solution — safe and effective vaccines. Through Rotary’s global End Polio Now campaign, we’re working to immunise every child, everywhere, until transmission stops and the world is truly polio-free.

This October, members of the Rotary Club of Canberra Sundowners are lacing up their shoes to help make that vision a reality. Our team will be walking, running and strolling throughout Canberra — especially around our iconic Lake Burley Griffin — as part of Rotary’s Walk With Us campaign. Together, we’re aiming to crack hundreds of kilometres in support of those who can’t walk for themselves
