My target 250 kms
I'm challenging myself to walk 250 km during the month of October to raise vital funds that will help prepare us for a Polio free world.
The global campaign to eradicate Polio has achieved extraordinary progress. Since 1988, cases of Wild Polio have fallen by more than 99.9%, and today the virus remains endemic in only Afghanistan and Pakistan. Yet the final hurdle is proving the hardest: until transmission stops everywhere, children remain at risk and the virus could spread back into countries that have already been declared Polio-free.
Rotary has been at the heart of this effort for more than four decades, raising billions of dollars, mobilizing volunteers and keeping Polio eradication high on the international agenda. The Gates Foundation is a vital partner, providing major funding, technical expertise and innovation. Under the current agreement, every dollar that Rotary raises for its End Polio Now campaign is matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation up to US$50M a year.
